What it is

A patent is worth what someone will pay to use it or own it, and that value is realized through a written agreement — a license, if the right stays with you, or a sale, if it does not. Getting that agreement right is a different exercise from getting the patent itself: it is negotiation and drafting work where experience can make the difference between a good deal and a bad deal.
